A beautiful, faded, antique globe de mariée which would have been given to a French couple to commemorate their marriage. Dating from the early 1900s, this beautiful piece would have taken pride of place in their home and at one point, been enclosed in a large, glass dome.
This highly decorative piece was made using momentos from the couple's special day. At it's centre is the bride's original, green velvet crown studded with little gold flowers. This is surrounded by an arch of thin gold metal attached to the lovely, worn, wooden base. The arch is adorned with numerous gold metal leaves, and at the top, sits a beautiful love bird holding a small, golden wreath in it’s beak above pretty, small mirror. On either side of the arch are two beautiful small, porcelain madonna statues.
There is some slight damage on the back of the wooden base which looks like it may have been caused by some historic woodworm. This has been treated as a precaution.
I love the faded opulence and elegance of this piece and think that it would make a really unique and romantic display item in any interior.
