A beautiful, rare, French stoneware bottle which would once have contained red wine vinegar from Burgundy.
This lovely old bottle has beautiful black stencilling on the front and back which tells us it was made for Fauchon, an exclusive Parisian grocery store still offering luxury produce and gifts as it has since it first opened in 1886. The stencilling on the back says 'Toutes mes bouteilles doivent porter le cachet de ma maison. Bornier Dijon.' Maison Bornier is a long established seller of Dijon mustard which must have produced these beautiful bottles, and perhaps even the vinegar, for Fauchon.
This bottle has such a lovely story and I love the simplicity of the simple cream stoneware, combined with the beautiful typography and the original wax seal. I think this would make a lovely decorative item and it would be a great addition to any shelf or cabinet display.
