A beautiful, deconstructed antique globe de mariée, dating from around the turn of the last century, which would have been given to a French couple on their wedding day to commemorate their marriage. It would have taken pride of place in their home and at one point, would have been enclosed in a large, glass dome and decorated with highly symbolic pieces such as the bride’s wedding crown, momentos from their wedding day and, later family photographs and other keepsakes.
The dome and other decorative elements are long gone and what remains is a beautifully ornate, golden metal arch attached to a lovely, worn, wooden base. The arch is mostly covered with gilded leafs attached with little wire hooks and at the top, sits a beautiful love bird holding a small, golden wreath in it’s beak.
We love the faded elegance of this piece and think that it would make a really unique and romantic display item in any interior.
