A beautiful, faded antique globe de mariée, dating from the late 1800s, which would have been given to a French couple to commemorate their marriage. It would have taken pride of place in their home and at one point, would have been enclosed in a large, glass dome.
This highly decorative piece was made of momentos from the couple's special day. At it's centre is a beautiful red velvet cushion upon which sits the bride's original, wax flower headdress. This is surrounded by an arch of thin gold metal attached to the lovely, worn, wooden base. The arch is adorned with numerous gold metal leaves, and more wax flowers on vines, with papery, faded green leaves. At the top of the arch, sits a beautiful love bird holding a small, golden wreath in it’s beak.
I love the faded opulence and elegance of this piece and think that it would make a really unique and romantic display item in any interior.
