Dating from the early 1900s, this is a delicate and intricate piece of every day, Japanese history. A bundle of antique Japanese shop accounts kept on old 'washi' paper and tied together into a book using a lovely old piece of card and string. Each page gives a unique daily record of what the shopkeeper sold; noted down by them in beautiful, primitive Japanese calligraphy.
This book is particularly characterful. It has little notes stuck on the back cover and inside. It has different sections inside as well, with different page formats and styles of calligraphy; it really is a unique treasure.
Some of the pages have slight tears and creases but given its age and fragility, this piece is in great rustic condition. It would make a beautiful and unique coffee table piece or would look equally lovely styled on a shelf.
