A beautifully distressed, large old herbalist tub. Made from thick board, it has a wooden base, lid and handle. It has it's wonderfully distressed, original label which tells us the Latin and common name for the product that was stored inside - charcoal. Charcoal is still used today in alternative medicine, believed to be helpful for stomach complaints, and the inside of the tub does have a lovely woody smell which is obviously a remnant of having stored this product for many years.
We love the creamy, brown tones of this old apothecary jar which are perfectly worn and weathered, giving the tub a lovely rustic patina. This is a really beautiful and unusual item which would look great as a statement display piece.
